CSU Extension Community Garden in Bailey Welcomes Applications for a Free Plot

Park County, CO – A unique opportunity for local residents to grow their own food is coming this summer to Bailey. Applications are now open for Park County residents to reserve one of the eight free community garden plots for the summer.

Community gardeners care for and harvest from their own plots, or growing spaces. Gardeners may plant, grow and harvest any fresh fruits and vegetables of their choosing.

“The Community Garden helps families cut down on grocery bills, promote healthy eating in the process, while also providing a fun activity that families, friends or individuals can enjoy outdoors,” said Barbie Garnett, CSU Extension Director and Community Garden Coordinator. “Participants can also learn the tricks to successfully gardening in the mountains,” added Garnett.

The CSU Extension Community Garden is a partnership between CSU Extension and Park County Government and is comprised of several separate garden plots that are each cared for by individuals or families.

Participants are asked to agree to the community garden rules and donate 5% of the produce grown to a local food bank or similar organization in our local community.

If you’re new to gardening or want to learn more, classes with our new Master Gardeners are coming soon. Please keep an eye on the website for upcoming dates.
