This is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the magnificent surroundings of South Park while providing a vital and rewarding service to our visitors. At an elevation of 9.504 ft., Wilkerson Pass is located approximately 50 miles west of Colorado Springs. As a Forest Service property, Wilkerson Pass Visitor Center is operated under a permit by the Park County Department of Heritage, Tourism & Community Development. With a privately –situated RV pad within walking distance your chance to enjoy the serenity and beauty of Colorado!

Primary duties include the following:

* Staffing the information desk (includes greeting park visitors, providing basic orientation and park information, answering questions in person and over the telephone, operating a cash register, folding brochures and handouts, and other related tasks);

* Light maintenance including stocking and cleaning public restrooms, garbage collection etc.

* Assisting staff with various projects as needed.

Job description: Visitor Services volunteers will need the ability to multi-task and utilize communication skills to introduce and provide an exemplary experience for the visiting public. Duties include staffing the contact station; providing information, recording visitor statistics for park use, and providing sales and operation of the WPVC Bookstore.

Qualifications: Applicants should have a keen interest in meeting and working with people, customer service skills, ability and/or willingness to learn how to operate a cash register, ability to independently, ability to handle issues with tact and in a professional manner, some knowledge of the local area, and the ability to tolerate altitude and changing climate/temperature.

Required: strong communication skills, patience, enjoy working with people.

Desired: Excellent customer service skills, valid driver's license, ability to work independently, public speaking skills, light maintenance skills

Time Commitment: 28 hours per week. Wilkerson Pass Visitor Center is open 9:00 – 5:00 every day. Volunteers are required to work three shifts (24 hours) one week and four shifts (32 ours) the next week for an average of 28 hours per week.

Training: Volunteers are provided with training from park County staff. Training includes: visitor operations, local knowledge, bookstore operations, maintenance procedures and general information.

Compensation: Volunteers will have access to a private RV campsite with full hookups, propane and wifi for each week in which they work. Additionally volunteers will receive a stipend of $25 per workday.

Housing & Amenities

Type: Trailer / RV pads

Description: Two RV sites for WPVC volunteers (with full hook-ups) are available within a short walk of the center. There is no visitor RV parking in this area.
