Paris Mill Remediation Project

Buckskin Creek (Paris Mill Remediation Project)

The 1894 Paris Mill has been identified as Park County’s most  significant historic mining resource. At the same time, the  site contained high levels of toxic metals such as cadmium and zinc.

Park County has purchased the Paris Mill and surrounding property to  restore the mill for future public use. To ensure public health and  safety, and to prevent the contamination of nearby Buckskin Creek  (pictured above), contaminated soils and mill tailings were removed or  encapsulated over a three-year period.

In addition to providing matching funds for a conservation easement  grant, the Park County Land & Water Trust Fund also contributed  matching funds for soils and tailings remediation on the property.
