McDaniel Ranch Habitat Project

River winding through a field

The McDaniel Ranch reach of Michigan Creek was impaired  by excessive livestock grazing, degraded riparian vegetation condition,  almost total loss of the native willow community, beaver eradication,  and altered flow and sediment regimes.

Project goals included improving stream side and riparian vegetation, limiting damage to the riparian area by  livestock, efficient livestock use of uplands, creating a  narrower stream channel, improving habitat for fish, and  reducing water loss from the channel.

Funding for the 2010 McDaniel Habitat Project was provided in part by the Park County Land & Water Trust Fund.
