A conservation easement held by the Colorado Cattlemen’s Agricultural Land Trust (CCALT) now protects 480 acres of the historic Webb Smith Ranch and its water resources. This 19th Century ranch is mostly surrounded by Pike National Forest. The property is located between Badger Mountain and the Puma Hills near Lake George. A major partner in the project was Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) with a grant from the CPW Habitat Partnership Program. The Land and Water Trust Fund provided funds for the conservation easement transaction costs. CCALT has protected a total of sixteen ranches encompassing more than 13,000 acres in Park County.
