In 1999, the National Park Service made Park County a Certified Local Government, a designation that gives the county the ability to officially develop its own standards for establishing local historic landmarks.
The Board of County Commissioners
appointed and authorized the Park County Historic Preservation Advisory Commission (PCHPAC)
to make recommendations for the preservation of Park County’s history. The Office of Historic Preservation was created to carry out this mission.
The Director is responsible for:
- Handling matters including the South Park National Heritage Area and the Preserve America Community designations that have been awarded to Park County
- Developing and maintaining partnerships with federal, State, and local government and non-profit agencies to protect, preserve, and promote historical sites within the County
